Specialists intend to create alternatives to anabolic steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs. They point out that athletes may soon have another way to bulk up. The Salk Institute has noted that the efforts of the scientists have got success. Late researches have displayed that inactivation of a genome regulator which is known as “NCoR1” leads to increase of muscle size, energy and endurance. The leader of the studies conducted in the Salk Institute, Ronald Evans, notes that this knowledge may lead to development of some new preparations which will benefit not only for sportspersons and bodybuilders who train but also for persons that are sedentary.
The specialists of the Salk Institute note about persons who can’t perform physical exercises because they have different health troubles, such as diabetes, frailty, immobility and other physical or psychological aspects that lead to sedentary lifestyle. The specialists intend to elaborate certain specific products which could benefit for sedentary persons so, as exercises benefit for healthy people. Now they experiment with sedentary mice.
As for anabolic steroids, they may cause increase of muscles in sedentary individuals. But people that administrate anabolic steroids should train and alter their diets to reach better effects.
If new medications that block NCoR1 are elaborated by scientists successfully, they will lead to essential changes in sedentary individuals. But can you imagine which positive effects will be caused in athletes?
But there is also an important difference between anabolic steroids and NCoR1 suppression. As it is known, anabolic steroids lead to unexpected results; some of them may be quite dangerous for health and even for life. Furthermore, anabolic steroids may lead to serious adverse reactions especially in women. But as for NCoR1 suppression, scientists assure that products that will suppress this genome regulator will not lead to side reactions.
There is an article about NCoR1 suppression which has got the following title: “NCoR1 Is a Conserved Physiological Modulator of Muscle Mass and Oxidative Function”. It represents results of various experiments which enrolled mice and nematodes. The experiments have displayed that NCoR1 suppression benefits for muscle mass very much. The mice with suppression of this genome regulator had more enhanced muscles and ran faster than others.
Unfortunately, the mice with NCoR1 suppression were not compared with the mice that received anabolic steroids. If these two types of mice were compared, the results of the experiments would be very valuable for further studies and conclusions.
It is possible to mention that elder people and people who have got muscle dystrophy will be soon involved in researchers to check positive effects of new potential medications.
