The American mixed martial artist Chael Sonnen is allowed to take anabolic steroids. The physician Timothy Trainor noticed that this sportsman really suffered from hypogonadism.
What does this disorder represent? Hypogonadism is linked with insufficient testosterone secretion. Doctors usually indicate hormone replacement therapy for treatment of this condition.
The athlete Chael Sonnen has acquired a therapeutic use exemption (TUE). Thus, he is allowed to utilize steroids for clinical purposes and meet Anderson Silva at UFC 148 in July 2012.
According to instructions given by Chael Sonnen’s health care provider, he should introduce injections of Testosterone Enanthate and Testosterone Cypionate twice weekly. The measures which are prescribed have not been discussed. But under establishments of the Nevada Athletic Commission, blood serum levels of testosterone in this fighter must remain within normal range on the morning after the match with Silva.
According to the doctor Trainor, those who fight, having TUE, must be tested on the morning after the match to define whether they have administered something right before the fight.
Trainor believes that testosterone is able to cause performance-enhancing effects, if it is taken right before the fight. He claims that injections must not be introduced in the days before a fight to prevent high levels of testosterone.
But it seems that the NAC is not aware that steroids cause benefits linked with enhancement of performance, not only if they are applied right before competitions. Application of steroids influences significantly on performance during workouts before competitions. And the benefits remain even after athletes stop administering them.
The fighter Chael Sonnen had increased testosterone levels at UFC 117. He confirmed that he had tested positive because he had been on TRT. After his appeal the suspension was lowered to 6 months from one year. But he didn’t have any TUE that time.
